Job Description

ASU Students, are you interested in being a changemaker?! Do you want to make a difference in the lives of others? This position will help you develop your leadership skills while you gain real world, hands-on experience providing the opportunity to contribute to reshaping the future of education. Join our team and become a leader in a dynamic environment, offering academic coaching, tutoring and mentoring for K-8 students in online, classroom, and afterschool programs at several locations throughout the valley. Ambassadors work with small groups of K-8 students at various community service sites in the metro area, or in one of our virtual options, creating educational activities in subjects like reading, writing, and math. Opportunities for growth into supervisory roles are available. All training is provided, and free transportation is available. Sites are located near the campuses in Downtown Phoenix, Tempe, and West Valley.

Essential Duties

•Tutor, Lead, Mentor K-8th grade students

•Create hands-on, educational activities based on the Arizona Academic Standards

•Conduct in-person or virtual tutoring sessions in reading, writing, and math, as well as other subjects or create fun learning activities for blogs or YouTube videos

•Monitor student progress

•Test mastery of academic standards

•Participate in professional development activities

Minimum Qualifications

A significant amount of specialized training or experience is required.

Enrolled as an ASU student for fall 2024

Desired Qualifications

•Been awarded a Federal Pell Grant and show Federal Work Study eligible on yourFinancial Aid Notification page on My ASU

•Have a 2024- 2025 FAFSA on File

•At least "half-time" enrollment for Fall 2024

•Experience working with children

•Effective communication skills in a K-8 learning environment

•Valid Arizona Driver’s License is preferred

Working Environment

•Ambassadors will work with other ASU students in a K-8 learning environment, at various community service sites in the metro area

•Both in-person and virtual work options available

•Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.

•Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.

•Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.

•Ability to maintain and foster good working relationships with students, staff and community partners in a professional work environment.

•Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential duties.
