How I Met Your Mother told leading man Ted Mosby’s (Josh Radnor) love story in reverse — ultimately leading up to the moment where he meets the mother of his children. Radnor starred alongside Alyson Hannigan (Lily Aldrin), Jason Segel (Marshall Eriksen), Neil Patrick Harris (Barney Stinson) and Cobie Smulders (Robin Scherbatsky).
The sitcom, which ran on CBS from 2005 to 2014, also featured the late bob Bob Saget narrating as a future version of Ted Mosby.
“Something about How I Met Your Mother was [that] it always upended your expectations,” Radnor told HuffPost Live in 2016. “It always made you cry, it always was not what you thought it was.”

The project was ultimately scrapped, but a new version,with Hilary Duff in the lead role, debuted in January 2022. How I Met Your Fatherwas canceled in 2023 after two seasons.

Josh Radnor (Ted Mosby)
Radnor scored leading roles on Mercy Street, Rise and Hunters after saying goodbye to Ted Mosby. He also guest-starred on Grey’s Anatomy and appeared in The Seeker. The filmmaker has been a part of the musical group, Radnor and Lee, since 2016. He starred on Amazon Prime Video's Hunters from 2021 to 2023.
Radnor married psychologist Jordana Jacobs in January 2024, nearly two years after meeting at a sound meditation retreat. Alyson Hannigan was among the wedding attendees.

Alyson Hannigan (Lily Aldrin)
The Buffy alum hosted the shows Girl Scout Cookie Championship and Penn & Teller: Fool Us after HIMYM. Though she has appeared in made-for-TV films including Kim Possible and Abducted: The Mary Stauffer Story, she’s also landed guest star roles on Outmatched and Pure. She additionally has a prominent role voicing Claire Clancy on Disney Junior’s Fancy Nancy. In 2023, she competed on Dancing With the Stars season 32, finishing in fifth place.
Hannigan has been married to Alexis Denisof, who held a recurring role on HIMYM, since 2003. The twosome share daughters Satyana and Keeva.

Jason Segel (Marshall Eriksen)
Segel had a successful movie career throughout his run on HIMYM, but he’s appeared in less acting parts following the show’s end. He appeared in films including The End of the Tour, Our Friend and Sex Tape, which he also wrote and directed. He additionally starred in an anthology series for AMC in 2020 titled Dispatches from Elsewhere — a show that he created, wrote, directed an episode of and executive produced. In 2022, he appeared opposite Oscar nominee Jesse Plemons in Netflix's Windfall and he played basketball coach Paul Westhead in HBO Max's Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty. He starred in the Apple TV+ comedy Shrinking in 2023, which earning him his first Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.
Segel began dating photographer Alexis Mixter in 2014. The couple split up in April 2021 after eight years together. He and So You Think You Can Dance alum Kayla Randomski took their relationship public in late 2023, making their red carpet debut at the Emmys in January 2024.

Neil Patrick Harris (Barney Stinson)
Following his nearly 10-season turn as Barney Stinson, Harris continued to keep his momentum up in Hollywood. He landed roles in films including A Million Ways to Die in the West, Gone Girl andThe Matrix: Resurrections. He most notably starred in three seasons of Netflix’s acclaimed A Series of Unfortunate Events adaptation as Count Olaf and later joined the acclaimed Max mini series It's a Sin. The former child star also nabbed guest starring parts onAmerican Horror Story and Doctor Who. He reprised his role as Barney on two episodes of How I Met Your Father.
Harris has been married to David Burtka since 2014. They share twins Harper and Gideon.

Cobie Smulders (Robin Scherbatsky)
Smulders went on to make a splash in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Maria Hill, a role she played for more than a decade, appearing in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame,Spider-Man: Far From Home and Secret Invasion. Outside of the MCU, she’s starred in Jack Reacher: Never Go Back and The LEGO Movie 2. She nabbed recurring roles on A Series of Unfortunate Events and Arrested Development, and starred on the now-canceled Friends from College series. She starred in and produced her own ABC drama, Stumptown, in 2019, which ended after one season.
Smulders brought Ann Coulter to life in Impeachment: American Crime Story in 2021. In 2022, she became the first core cast member from HIMYM to reprise her role on the Hulu show How I Met Your Father.
Smulders has been married to Taran Killam since 2012. They share daughters Shaelyn and Janita.

Cristin Milioti (Tracy McConnell/The Mother)
Milioti tackled even more prominent parts after appearing in the titular role on HIMYM. The Grammy winner landed additional TV roles on shows including A to Z, Fargo, Black Mirror and The Mindy Project. She also nabbed movie parts in It Had to Be You and Breakable You, but her most notable post-HIMYM film gig occurred with Palm Springs — a 2020 rom-com purchased by Hulu at that year’s Sundance Film Festival for a record-breaking $17.5 million. Milioti starred on Max's Made for Lovefrom 2021 to 2022 and joined Peacock's The Resort in 2022.

Bob Saget (Future Ted/The Narrator)
Saget notably reprised his role as Danny Tanner on Netflix’s Full House reboot, Fuller House, after HIMYM. He additionally had several guest star roles on shows like Shameless and Grandfathered, and appeared in films including Entourage and Benjamin — a movie that he also directed. He acted in the Broadway play Hand To God in 2016 and continued to work as a standup comedian. Outside of acting, he launched his “Bob Saget's Here For You” podcast in April 2020.
Saget wed Kelly Rizzo in 2018, and he shared three daughters with his ex-wife, Sherri Kramer: Aubrey, Lara and Jennifer.
The comedian was found dead in his Orlando, Florida, hotel room in January 2022. A medical examiner later confirmed that Saget’s death was the result of “blunt head trauma.” He was 65 years old.

Ashley Williams (Victoria)
Williams initially appeared on HIMYM’s first season in 2006 before returning for season 8 in 2012. In between her seasons-long hiatus, she appeared in films including Something Borrowed and shows like Side Order of Life. After wrapping her run on HIMYM many years later, she landed film roles in A Most Violent Year, Lovesick and Aardvark. She also nabbed a prominent part on The Jim Gaffigan Show and guest-starred on shows such as Girls. Additionally, Williams has made a name for herself within the Hallmark world upon appearing in films like Christmas in Evergreen and Holiday Hearts. She has dabbled in theater as well, making her Broadway debut in John Grisham’s A Time To Kill in 2013.
Williams wed Neal Dodson in 2011. They share two sons, Gus and Odie.
The New York native is a certified birth doula.

Sarah Chalke (Stella Zinman)
The Scrubs alum appeared in films after HIMYM including Mother’s Day and The Wrong Missy, but she primarily continued to find her groove with TV roles. She popped up on Paradise PD, Speechless and Friends from College. The Canadian actress also reprised her former Roseanne role on the ABC revival in 2018 and starred on the Netflix drama Firefly Lane in 2021. More notably, she has been voicing Beth on Rick and Morty since 2013.
Chalke got engaged to Jamie Afifi in 2006. Us confirmed in September 2022 that the duo had split after more than 15 years together. The exes share two children: son Charlie and daughter Frances.

Becki Newton (Quinn Garvey)
Though Newton landed roles in films like Otherhood and Winning Ugly after HIMYM, she mostly made TV appearances. She had prominent or recurring parts on The Goodwin Games, Tell Me a Story and Divorce. She joined joined Netflix's The Lincoln Lawyer drama in 2022.
The Ugly Betty alum wed Chris Diamantopoulos in 2005. They duo share three kids together.

Alexis Denisof (Sandy Rivers)
Denisof, who is married to Hannigan, had several cameos on HIMYM as the unforgettable news anchor Sandy Rivers. He reprised his role in two episodes of How I Met Your Father in 2023.
Outside of the series, he starred on Grimm, Finding Carter and I Love Bekka & Lucy. He nabbed recurring or guest star parts on Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Legacies, and he reprised his Marvel Cinematic Universe role as The Other in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy. He also played Mike the 2020 drama Under My Skin.

Wayne Brady (James Stinson)
Brady continued to find success through major TV roles on The Bold and the Beautiful, Colony and Real Husbands of Hollywood. He has lent his voice to characters on Sofia the First and The Loud House and guest-starred on The Good Fight, Mixed-ish and Black Lightning. Additionally, he serves as a longtime performer on Whose Line Is It Anyway? and as the host of Let’s Make a Deal, for which he won a Daytime Emmy Award in 2018. He also competed on season 2 of The Masked Singer in 2019. Outside of TV, he appeared in the Broadway production of Kinky Boots in 2015 and 2018.
Brady shares daughter Maile with ex-wife Mandie Taketa. He came out as pansexual in 2023.

Marshall Manesh (Ranjit)
After playing the series’ beloved cab driver, he landed recurring roles on The Brink and Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life. He also guest-starred on Good Girls, Madam Secretary, Baskets and NCIS: Los Angeles. He additionally appeared in films including The Last Conception and Something From Tiffany's.
