EXCLUSIVE: While there has been question about big movies holding their theatrical release dates around the holidays in this COVID-19 moment, Universal’sNews of the Worldis solidifying a plan to release theatrically in the U.S., while getting its international release through Netflix. Deadline hears that thePaul Greengrass-directed period drama that starsTom Hanksis making a deal to have its overseas distribution handled through Netflix, which has done this on some other pictures but not on one this large.
The deal is being sewn up as we speak, and this will be good news for theaters in the U.S. as the picture launches its way into Oscar season. The picture will be release on PVOD as early as 17 days following its theatrical release on December 25. It will continue to hold screens. This is possible because of Uni’s deal with AMC, which allows for a hybrid model.
The Netflix deal will keep it eligible for BAFTAs abroad, but it gives the picture a vast global audience. It is an intriguing model for distribution as the business fights its way through the limitations of the coronavirus pandemic.

Just as a quick update to everybody here:

EXCLUSIVE:Jurassic World: Dominionbegan pre-production more than 18 months ago when the world was a very different place.
The $165MUniversalblockbuster wrapped this morning at the UK’s Pinewood Studios after an unprecedented shoot, which required 40,000 COVID tests, millions of dollars spent on protocols, and for cast and key crew to isolate in a bubble for months.
“There are a lot of emotions,” directorColin Trevorrowtold me last night on his way to shoot the movie’s finale, which will include “Jurassiclegacy actors Sam Neil, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum,Jurassic Worldstars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard and newcomers to the movie such as Mamoudou Athie and DeWanda Wise [who we’ve separately heard could have a big role in future instalments]…and some dinosaurs, of course.”
“I’m not sure I can put it into words,” continues Trevorrow. “It has been remarkable. Our crew and our cast has been so resilient. All producers have worked around the clock to make it the best it can be. It has been inspiring.”
That can-do energy came from many, and began right at the very top.Donna Langley, Chairman Universal Filmed Entertainment Group, told us: “As we continue to contend with the challenges facing our industry during a global pandemic, the collaborative nature of this production allowed us to safely complete nearly 100 days of shooting, and we are so proud of what this team was able to accomplish.”

Moderation
You guys are veering off-topic here. Like with Aquaman 2...
Do: Talk about how the case and Depp's departure will impact Fantastic Beasts 3's quality, box office, future installments, etc.
Don't: Talk about Heard and Depp's relationship, other people's reactions, the media, who is innocent, who is guilty, who is an angel, who isn't, what Heard should get, etc.
If you do want to talk about the stuff in the "DON'T" section, we have a thread in The Real World dedicated to this. Anyone who breaks these rules will be given warning points or even thread bans. Thank you!

@Brainbug@excel1@YourMother the Edgelord@Webslinger@charlie Jatinder@Noctis@Plain Old Tele@DAJKThis was by far the hardest to write for, because of three reasons. There was tons to talk about with some of these movies, with entire novels of research and information to discuss, though I do think I paced itself pretty well by discussing the most interesting materials. Another big one was just deciding what to write for the non-top 10 titles. I honestly felt there were about 8 or 9or so really compelling stories that could be worth talking about, but I tried to limit it down to 4, and I think I chose some really good ones that really encapsulate what the year was all about, both in terms of interesting stories and legacy to the future of the industry.
The hardest one though was talking about The Dark Knight Rises. It was really tough for me to know how to tow the line between discussing the Aurora shootings in relation to the box office without seeming tasteless or disrespectful to the lives that were lost, but I feel like I did an okay enough job there.
Can't wait to write about 2013. I know that at least for Frozen, writing about that movie is going to be a doozy!
